This British Standard is the UK implementation of EN 60079-1:2014. It is identical to IEC 60079-1:2014. It supersedes BS EN 60079-1:2007 which is withdrawn. BSI, as a member of CENELEC is obliged to publish BS EN 60079-1 as a British Standard. However, attention is drawn to the fact that during the
International Standard IEC 60079-1 has been prepared by subcommittee 31A: Flameproof enclosures, of IEC technical committee 31: Electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 1990 and its amendments 1 (1993) and 2 (1998). This fourth edition constitutes a technical revision.
Such additional testing may be particularly relevant with respect to Types of Protection that depend on quenching of a flame such as ‘flameproof enclosures “d”’ (IEC 60079-1) or limitation of energy, ‘intrinsic safety “i”’ (IEC 60079-11). This seventh edition cancels and replaces the sixth edition, published in 2011. AREA CLASSIFICATION Why ?
